Description

National CKS Memorial Hall(Paper Bookmark)

This memorial hall was built in memory of ChiangKai-shek, the first president of the Republic of China. 

Work on the hall beganin 1976, a year after President Chiang passed away.

Design by C.C. Yang, whowas also the architect for The Grand Hotel, the memorial hall is white with ablue roof, representing the dominant colors in the ROC flag;

while the emblemof the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) adorns the vaulted ceiling. 

A bronzestatue of Chiang looks west symbolically to the Presidential Office Buildingand mainland China. 

The front plaza of the hall is also a major venue fordemocratic assemblies.

中正紀念堂は中華民国の元総統蒋介石を記念して建てられました。1975年に他界された翌年に、行政院により着工が始まりました。

設計士は圓山大飯店と同じく楊卓成氏です。紀念館には国旗のメインカラーである青と白の二色が用いられています。また、紀念館の頂上部には国民党の党徽である天穹(大空)の裝飾が施されています。

銅像は総統府および中国大陸の方向である西に向かって設けられており、特別な意味が感じられます。

台湾の民主化が進み、思想が自由になった現在では、紀念堂前の広場は民主運動の集会場に頻繁に用いられます。
